Behind the Lens with Bebe and Jamie | A JEA Modeling Studio Portfolio Session in Central Mississippi
some sessions live and die by the weather. this one didn’t. when i drove down to central mississippi to shoot with bebe and jamie for jea modeling, we walked into a quiet studio with bare walls, polished concrete, and one big roll of seamless paper — and that emptiness was the whole point. portfolio building lives in the details, and a stripped-down room lets every choice we make read loud and clear in the final frames.
before i go further — a quick housekeeping note. i now only take on model portfolio building opportunities in middle tennessee. this central mississippi session was a special exception, and going forward, portfolio sessions are reserved for nashville and the surrounding middle tn area. if you’re a model or agency local to middle tn and looking to build a book, i’d love to hear from you.
we started with bebe. there’s a stillness in the way she carries her face — a kind of quiet confidence that doesn’t need to push — so we built her set around that. one big soft source, feathered just past her cheekbone, with a v-flat on the shadow side to keep her skin glowing without flattening it. neutral wardrobe, hands close to the collarbone, eyes steady. the goal was a beauty story that any agency could pull a clean headshot from, plus a few editorial frames where the only real movement is in her gaze.
jamie’s set was the opposite kind of energy. she wanted edge, and the studio was ready for it — we killed the soft light, swapped in a harder modifier, and let the shadows fall sharp across the seamless. color came in next: a saturated wardrobe piece against a contrasting backdrop, a bold lip, hair styled with intention. her best frames are the ones with motion in them — a head turn caught mid-flick, a stride that breaks the pose, a laugh that wasn’t planned. agencies want to see range, and jamie has the kind of presence that fills a frame whether she’s still or in motion.
between setups we kept it loose. snacks on the floor, a playlist neither of them would admit to liking, polaroids stuck to the side of the c-stand for reference. those in-between moments matter — portfolio work is technical, but the images that actually book jobs come from real expression, not held poses.
by the end of the day, we had two completely different bodies of work from a single afternoon in the same room. bebe walked away with a clean, cohesive editorial set and a strong commercial headshot. jamie left with bold, high-contrast frames that punch on a moodboard and softer ones to balance the book.
working with jea modeling is always a reminder of why agency-led portfolio days matter. the models get a real, intentional shoot. the agency gets fresh material to pitch. and i get to push myself in a space that’s all light, all decision-making, no distractions.
huge thank you to jea modeling, and to bebe and jamie for trusting me with this one. i can’t wait to see where these images take you both.
quick note before we dive in: i now only take on model portfolio building opportunities in middle tennessee. this central mississippi studio session was a special exception, and going forward, model portfolio sessions are reserved for nashville and the surrounding middle tn area. if you’re a model or agency local to middle tn and looking to build out a book, i’d love to hear from you.
studio work has its own kind of magic. there’s no chasing golden hour or hoping the weather cooperates — just a clean canvas, intentional lighting, and total control over the mood. for a portfolio session, that control is everything. agencies want to see how a model looks under different setups, and the studio gives us room to deliver exactly that without distraction.
the goal of this shoot was simple: build a body of work that bebe and jamie could take into casting calls and agency submissions with confidence. headshots, editorial-style frames, and movement-driven images that show range. we shifted lighting setups throughout the day — soft and wrapping for clean beauty frames, then more directional and shadowed for editorial drama — so each of them walked away with a versatile mix.
we also leaned into wardrobe to give bebe and jamie distinct visual stories. bebe leaned into a softer, more editorial feel — neutral tones, clean silhouettes, and quiet expressions that let her features speak for themselves. jamie brought a bolder presence, so we matched her energy with stronger contrast, more dynamic posing, and color that popped against the studio backdrop. seeing two completely different stories come out of the same space in a single afternoon is one of my favorite parts of portfolio work.
working with jea modeling continues to be a reminder of why collaboration matters. when an agency invests in their models with thoughtful development sessions like this, everyone wins — bebe and jamie walk away with stronger books, the agency has fresh material to pitch, and i get to stretch creatively in ways that brand and wedding work doesn’t always allow.
a huge thank you to jea modeling, and to bebe and jamie for trusting me with this session. i can’t wait to see where these images take you both.
