Behind the Lens with Josie | A JEA Modeling Portfolio Session in Northern Mississippi
there’s something special about photographing a model who is just starting to build her portfolio. the energy is different — there’s hunger, curiosity, and a willingness to try anything in front of the camera. that’s exactly what i found when i partnered with jea modeling for a portfolio session featuring josie in northern mississippi.
quick note before we dive in: i typically only take on model photoshoots in middle tennessee, so this session was a special exception. if you’re a model or agency outside of middle tn, i’m not currently booking sessions in your area — but i’d still love to connect if you’re ever passing through nashville or the surrounding area.
the goal of this shoot was simple: create a body of work that josie could use to push her career forward. headshots, editorial-style frames, and movement-driven images that show range. agencies want to see versatility, and that became our north star throughout the day.
we played with light, location, and wardrobe to give josie a few distinct looks. some frames leaned into a softer, more editorial feel — natural light, clean backdrops, and quiet expressions that let her features speak for themselves. others brought a bolder presence, with stronger shadows and more dynamic posing to match her energy. seeing a few completely different stories come out of the same afternoon is one of my favorite parts of portfolio work.
working with jea modeling was a reminder of why collaboration matters. when an agency invests in their models with thoughtful development sessions like this, everyone wins — josie walks away with a stronger book, the agency has fresh material to pitch, and i get to stretch creatively in ways that brand and wedding work doesn’t always allow.
a huge thank you to jea modeling and to josie for trusting me with this portfolio. i can’t wait to see where these images take you.

a huge thank you to jea modeling and to both models for trusting me with their portfolios. i can’t wait to see where these images take you.
